Jess is leading on CTSI’s Policy work, including helping CTSI to drive change and build influence externally, and champion the work of the Trading Standards profession.
Background
Jess is a Christian and a Chartered Trading Standards Practitioner, with a strong sense of fairness and social justice. After graduating with a degree in Environmental Health, Jess made the switch to Trading Standards, working her way through the qualification process until she was awarded the Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS) by CTSI. It is believed that Jess is the first person in the history of both the Environmental Health and Trading Standards professions to hold both qualifications.
Jess has two decades’ experience in a variety of Trading Standards and regulatory-based roles across the public and private sector, advising and enforcing on various areas of regulatory law in a practical, risk based and pragmatic way. A firm believer in the value of education and training, having received exceptional training and mentoring herself, Jess uses her experiences to share with, and benefit, others. She has spent many years training and mentoring those interested in regulatory professions, with her particular passion and expertise being found in the area of food safety and standards.
Outside of work, Jess is training to be a local preacher in the Methodist Church, is a petrol head, a history enthusiast and enjoys reading, gardening, running, horse riding, rugby and baking. She loves spending time with her friends, her family and their beloved greyhound.
