Jessica Merryfield

I am a Christian, Chartered Trading Standards Practitioner, with a degree in Environmental Health. I am told I am the first person in the history of both professions to hold both qualifications. I work for Nottinghamshire County Council, as a Trading Standards Officer and CTSP, specialising in food standards and Primary Authority work. I am the practical, day-to-day food lead for the Authority, and I mentor all the food standards trainee officers. I hold the position of TSEM Food Standards & Allergens Group chairwoman, and sit on a variety of local, regional, and national food standards and safety groups. I also work with CTSI as an expert advisor and trainer in food standards matters.

I am a dedicated and passionate food safety specialist, with nearly 20 years’ experience in enforcement and food regulation roles, split between Environmental Health and Trading Standards in both the public and private sector. I have previously worked at both County and District Councils, as well as some time in private industry for a consultancy and for a multinational food retailer and manufacturer, undertaking a variety of food enforcement, risk and regulatory advisory roles, covering all aspects of food safety regulation.
